What is Writers.Work?

Writers Work is a site that aims to serve as a haven where writers can find writing jobs, training tools and other writing resources. On their dashboard, you will find job listings from job boards such as Craigslist, Problogger, Indeed, Mediabistro and JournalismJobs. They also have independent jobs from their direct clients.

Is Writers Work legit?

So, is Writers Work legit? That’s one of the most asked questions about this platform. Without any meandering, I will get straight to the point and state that Writers Work is legitimate. You can make money working as a writer on this platform.

But it being legitimate doesn’t mean you should head to the site and sign up. You need to find out more about the site, which I discuss below.

You also need to understand that the site has been a bit controversial. Be sure to understand this before you sign up with them.

Furthermore, Writers Work has a staggering F on the Better Business Bureau. Now, this is a pathetic rating for any company.

How Writers.Work Works

Is Writers Work Legit? Writers Work Review

First, you will need to pay for your subscription to access the different tools available for their members. After your sign up, you will be able to access the dashboard. The dashboard lists jobs from various sources and their pay. You can access the available positions by just clicking on them and sending in your bids.

Whenever you land a job, it’s upon you to discuss the work terms. You will, luckily, get training on how to deal with clients from the platform.

You will also notice one of their features called ‘University’. This feature offers some tips on copy-writing and pitching.

This feature is a great way to get you started on this platform.

How much does it cost to join Writers Work?

There are two payment options to join Writers Work. First, you can opt for the lifetime subscription that costs $47. They state that the $47 is a 50% discount off the price. This is the favorite option for most of its users.

Alternatively, you can opt to pay $15 per month. If you choose to sign up on this site, go for whatever option works for you.

The big issue here is not what it costs to join Writers Work. The real question is whatever the amount, is it worth it? It depends. First, Writers Work promises that it will give you a full refund if you are not satisfied with the service within 30 days of use. Careful though, some complaints came up from subscribers who had trouble getting their refunds.

Secondly, the training you will receive as a subscriber on this platform is very comprehensive. If you are a beginner, it will ultimately be worth your money.

Thirdly, whatever you make on this platform will determine whether the pay was worth it or not. I look into how much you can make from Writer Work in the next segment.

How much can you make with Writers Work?

Through Writers Work’s advertisement, they state that you can make anything from $20-65 per hour or per gig. This sounds like a fantastic deal but don’t start celebrating just yet.

There is no guarantee that you will land clients here. Landing clients on this platform is pretty tricky for beginners. Experienced writers may find it more comfortable, though. What you make on this platform will entirely depend on your effort. If you are not aggressive enough, you can come out with nothing.

What we like about Writers Work

  1. Training

I love the training bit of Writers Work. They have comprehensive training materials that will help you boost your writing skills. The training materials cover all the crucial aspects of freelance writing. From the training, you will learn how to deal with clients for the best outcome.

The training consists of comprehensive modules accompanied by videos for better understanding.

If you are a newbie, this training is a sure way to boost your freelance writing skill.

  1. They have a document formatting editor

I loved the word formatting editor on this platform. The editor has been optimized to work effectively for writers. From this editor, you will easily spot simple grammatical errors and even view your readability score.

  1. They have a fantastic search filter

They have a search system filter that allows users to search for jobs filtering them according to the pay, source and type of job. You will also love that the user can save the searches for future use.

You will get notified whenever job offers in your saved categories come up.

What we don’t like about Writers Work

  1. Writers Work is beginner unfriendly

If you have some experience in freelance writing, you may have easier time landing gigs on this platform. However, if you are just starting your freelance career, get ready to get your fingers dirty. You will need to put in more effort into bidding for gigs.

  1. There is no guarantee that you will land clients on this platform

As already said, landing clients on this platform can be pretty tricky. Paying for subscription fee should guarantee you clients. Your aggressiveness and sometimes luck will land you clients.

  1. Expired job offers

Some of the job listings posted on their dashboards are expired, especially those from Craiglist. It doesn’t make sense to upload expired job offers or job offers that have already been awarded to the lucky bidders. This does not happen frequently, but it does.

  1. They are not prompt with their refunds

Most, if not all, of their negative reviews on the Better Business Bureau, are about late refunds. They promise to refund your money if you don’t like the service within the first 30 days of use. Whenever subscribers ask for a refund, they are asked to wait for ten business days-Which is okay. The only downside is they do not stick to the ten days. They take months and months.

You will only receive your refund after pushing them.

You will realize that they have not responded to complaints against them on the Better Business Bureau.

Final Verdict: Is it Worth It to Join Writers Work?

Writer Works is not a site I would recommend to anyone. Yes, it’s legit and it can help you earn some money. But it just has so many downsides in my opinion.

After reading several Writers Work reviews online and browsing around their site, you will realize that it’s a bit shady. Its cons clearly outweigh its pros.

There are lots of other websites that you can use to land writing jobs for free. This site is a gamble on your time and money.
